IMG_1104-0.JPGSauber F1 team announced today that Brazilian Felipe Nasr will partner Marcus Ericsson in next year’s F1 championship. Felipe has taken part in several free practice sessions for Williams this year and is currently 2nd in the GP2 championship; albeit with no chance of catching champion Jolyon Palmer.

Sauber team principal Monisha Kaltenborn said: “We have been following Felipe’s career path for some time now.

“He fully deserves his position in Formula 1 having had a very successful career in the junior categories.

“We are happy that he will be driving for our team next year. This means that Brazil will have one more young and talented driver in the sport.”

Sauber are known to introduce many drivers into F1 and have done in the past with drivers such as Sebastian Vettel, Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa and Robert Kubica.

“This is an unforgettable moment that I owe to all of those who have supported me,” he said. “Today the dream has come true.”

“I had a wonderful year at Williams, where I learned a lot and prepared myself to be a race driver in Formula 1.”

The somewhat surprise signing means that both Esteban Gutierrez and Adrian Sutil, the team’s current drivers, will be out of a drive next season unless they can find another seat.
